“IOU”

blast-burn:

When there was no answer, he sighed. His best bet was that she was probably hiding by now, either feeling guilty or not yet ready to face an angry trainer who had been crossed. After all, what kind of person eats all of the cookies and doesn’t even at least leave one?

Kotone, apparently.

He shook his head and started for Kotone’s room. He stuffed his hands into his pockets as he climbed each step, his head clear of any thoughts. He wasn’t going to let this get to him, absolutely not. Sure, he was craving those delicious little devils for the longest time now, but he wasn’t going to get upset, nope. Not a bit.

He entered the room and casually gazed around. Not a single pigtail in sight.

She’s hiding. He sighed.

“Geez, I wonder where oh where Lil’ Lyra has gone?” He walked into the room and gave it a more careful inspection. He went inside the closet, looked through drawers; nothing, of course. “I guess she must have shrunk, now making her literally little.”

He chuckled at his pun. Good one.

Kotone tried her best not to conjure up a growl when he had insulted her height. It would give away her great hiding place. She watched his feet shuffle around the room, looking for her.

He’d eventually find her. The bed was usually the last hiding place the seeker would look in. Maybe, just maybe, if she got the timing right. She’d be able to get away.

Alright, make a noise, Fire will crouch down to peek under the bed, roll into his face, get up while he’s recovering— AND THEN MAKE A RUN FOR IT AND NEVER COME BACK. Well, maybe she should run to the store and buy him the cookies she owes him. Though, it’d be nice to hurt his face since he clearly wounded her ego. Yes, he would have to suffer the consequences.

The trainer moved around under the bed. Making enough noises for him to notice her.

“IOU”

blast-burn:

After living on the mountain for the past couple of months, the thing that Fire always misses the most next to the ground, was food. He had gone grocery shopping just recently as per his mother’s request (she always makes him every time he’s back) and though Kotone has been staying with them for the time being, he got everything he always did. One of those things was, of course, cookies.

The mountain was always low on cookies, it just wasn’t fair.

He whistled to himself as he strolled on over to the kitchen, his sweet tooth craving dangerously for the round treat. Usually he always went simple when he bought cookies: chocolate chip or sugar, the simplest you could get. But he was bold this time, having gone for the double chocolate chunk, the most chocolate you ca get out of a cookie without eating an actual chocolate cookie. The double chocolate chunk was always a risky move because having lived on a mountain for long, things like sugars can get to you. You had to be careful eating chocolate after living on plants for months at a time.

Yeah but he risked it this time.

He got to the kitchen and looked around for the cookie jar. One of his favorite things about home was that his mom never got rid of the cookie jar, despite Fire’s age. He appreciated small things like this.

Yet when he found the jar, his left eye couldn’t help but twitch. A sticky note was attached to the top, and upon further inspection, there were no cookies left.

“IOU,” read the note.

Lil’ Lyra!” Screamed Fire.

That was it. THAT WAS THE VOICE SHE’D BE DREADING FOR THE WHOLE WEEK. Even since they went to the Supermarket, she’d been eyeing those double chocolate chunks since the moment Fire had put it in the basket. Oh~ How the melted into her mouth when she had the first few cookies.

She almost regretted eating all of them.

Kotone squealed and ran towards the bed. Hiding under it and pokeball at hand. Maybe Fire was the type to approach her and attack her. I mean, SHE DID STEAL HIS COOKIES AFTER ALL. LEAVING NONE FOR HIM. Not even a crumb. Only a pathetic little note sayng ‘IOU’ in big black letters.

“He won’t find me.” she repeated to herself as she anticipated the moment the older trainer would bust the door open to confront her.

[W-WHO WAS THIS HOLDING HER THIS WASN’T KOTONE! Marmar squirmed in Fire’s grasped and blindly tried to swat at him—but alas, her limbs were too stubby. She cried even more until she felt the exchange of hands and opened her eyes. She stopped crying instantly, hugging her trainer and babbling a mile a minute.] (KOTONE KOTONE KOTONE!!!! UWAAAAH THIS ISN’T OUR HOUSE AND YOU WEREN’T IN THE ROOM AND IT’S STARTING TO GET DARK AND I THOUGHT THE WALLS WERE BULLYING ME AGAIN AND DECIDED TO ASK THIS HOUSE TO SWALLOW ME AND WHY DO STAIRS HURT AND AND AND—) [She took a deep breath and finally relaxed, nestled in her trainer’s arms.] Marilllllllllll… (Kotoneeeeeeeee…) (u vu)

[ Fire just watched the two as the little Pokemon squeaked endlessly and how Kotone cried almost as much as the little Pokemon did just moments ago. Kotone wasn’t kidding when she said that Marmar was her best friend. The entire scene was actually pretty… cute. He let out a small chuckle with a soft smile after. ]

Good to know she’s safe then.

Yes, sweetie. Mhm. Just don’t ever go down the stairs by yourself ever again! You know you’re going to just hurt yourself. [ She nodded as Marmar babbled on and on. About something that she would never understand. After all, Kotone can’t speak pokemon! ]

I’m glad I didn’t leave you behind again. Mmm, how about I fix you up a snack and then we can go to bed, alright darling? [ Kotone poked her nose and gave her a smile. They headed towards the kitchen. ]

As if on cue, a blue pudgy blur wailed while running tripping fumbling down the stairs in utter panic. “MARILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL MARILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL (KOTONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE KOTONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE)” was all the little thing could wail, too frightened to even see a foot in front of her. How many times had she lost Kotone? HOW DID SHE EVEN END UP IN THIS HOUSE? Did the house swallow her this time?

With an unceremonious PLOP, Marmar fell bottom first on the floor, crying even louder from the pain.

[ Fire observed Kotone carefully and when she appeared to be uneasy, he placed a hand on his chin, thinking. ] If she isn’t in her Poke ball, does she leave it often? Because if she does, maybe she’s inside the house… [ He didn’t want Kotone to flip out on him over her Pokemon. Sure, there’s a chance she left ‘Marmar’ behind, but for now, it’s good to give her some hope. ]

Let’s check upstairs. [ He starts for the stairs until he saw a blue ball fall right before him.  He wasn’t really sure at first, but ended up deciding on picking up the poor wailing pokemon, then realizing that this ‘Marmar’ was a marill. The nickname then made sense. He was sure to be as gentle as he could be as he approached Kotone. ]

Seems like she decided to find you instead.

[ Kotone was nearly in tears when she realized that Marmar was not in her ball. Did she leave her in Johto again or did she decide to leave her ball finally and run off somewhere in town. It was when a familiar cry was heard from upstairs. It confirmed that she did bring the little blue ball with her. ] MARMAAAAAR—

[ She screamed when she saw the marill falling down the stairs. No! Her legs were too tiny for her to be going down stairs. She needed to be carried up and down the stairs! When Fire picked her up from the ground Kotone quickly went up to him. Taking her baby into her arms. ] Marmar? Are you okay, darling? I’m here now… oh my goodness! I’m so sorry! Uwa…

Marmar? [ He raises a brow. ] Is that one of your Pokemon or something? Do you give them all nicknames? [ He stops for a second to consider his own Pokemon, how they don’t have nicknames. Should they? ]

Oh! Only a few have a nickname! Marmar is my marill and she’s my best friend! She’s also my first pokemon. Here! Let me show her to you!

[ Kotone grabbed Marmar’s pokeball from her pocket. Pressing the button to release the water-mouse from her capsule— only to not have her not in her ball. ]

… Shit.

That sounds kinda like extreme grocery shopping. Is this what you do every time you go buy food? It’s like you’re 8 or something, ahaha. But uh, alright, sure, why not?

… Hey! It makes things much more interesting! Marmar thinks it’s like the best time of the week— other than baking and y’know… making food.

Well, if you really feel that way, you can always help me with the grocery shopping that mom tagged me off with this week. She always gives me this big list so some extra help would be good.

Does that mean you’re push me in the cart? Eh? Ehhhhhh? Will you, Fire? It’s gonna be so much fun! Let’s have time limit. Let’s see if we can get all the stuff in under fifteen minutes.

We can do it!

I feel like all I’ve been doing since I’ve arrived in Kanto is sleeping and eating. And the occasional daily bath. Haha—

Maybe I shouldn’t be a freeloader and actually do something.

“Hmm,” Fire nodded slowly to show he understood, but he wasn’t quite sure if he did. Sure, he should have considering he’s hardly ever home, always up on a mountain. However, he felt something was missing, she didn’t looked all too relaxed when she was explaining. He sighed and shrugged, looking back at her with the most sympathetic smile he could muster.

“Alright. Good enough for me. You tired yet though?” He turned around and started fluffing one of the couch’s pillows, leaning back into it. “Your room is upstairs. My room, I guess. I don’t like sleeping in it though so it’s yours as long as you need it.”

Oh! Y-Yeah, I’m pretty tired. [ It was rather nice of him to offer his room for her to sleep in. He probably wasn’t used to sleeping in a room anymore, so, she had free reign over it now. ] Thanks again for letting me stay… I appreciate it, Fire. Really!

[ Kotone picked up her bag from the floor and slung in over her shoulder. ] I guess we should sleep now. I won’t bother you for the remainder of the night. G-Good night, Fire!

When the TV turned off, Fire blinked. He looked around for the remote, but he found it in the hands of Kotone. Oh that’s right, she’s here. Oh wait right she was the one who told you about Poffin Wars in the first place—

“Uh, sorry! I guess when I get a luxury back I just can’t help but well, take advantage of it! Sorry Lil’ Lyra, I’ll pay more attention to you.” He smiled softly as he sat back into the couch, looking right at her. “Oh hey that’s right, you never told me why you wanted to stay. Not that I don’t mind, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t curious.”

… W-Well! [ Where would she start? Kotone furrowed her brows and leaned back into the couch. Might as well give him an idea why she was here int he first place. ] Well, you see, my dear Fire—

There are just times when I need to get away from home. Period. [ Would that be considering lying? Well, a white lie. She was partially telling the truth. ] You know get away from the old routine… and… the same old… same old?

“Yeah yeah that’s great. Shh, poffin waaaaaars.” Fire was memorized by this show. After all, how many chances did you get to watch cable on a mountain anyway? He was pretty sure he heard some other words being tossed around by the two girls, but really, watching the last two chefs duke it out with their whisks and pans was just more attention grabbing.

“Go man go…”

[ It had been a while since Leaf had left and Fire still hasn’t snapped out of his trance. How long has he been deprived from a television!? Kotone certainly felt like she should turn off the darn thing. ] Ugh, this is ridiculous.

Oooooi, Fire, snap out of it! [ She waved her hand in front of his face. Taking the remote with her other hand and pressing the big red button. The screen went black and the room went silent. ]
